It has always been there, the urge
To turn a thought into a portrait
Express myself as my hand is willed
My voice, poured upon a page
I kid myself that time forestalls my efforts
For it is I that lingers at the gate
Hidden from rejection, what price humility
Does the risk outweigh the reward
Alas, I have been read, been heard
Intoxicated by the wine of validation
Recognition, sought and captured
My message, silent no more
About oldmainer
I am a retired manager living in Southern Maine and a would be writer of poetry, narratives, short stories, and random opinions, and that's how Oldmainer was born. Recently, I decided to try an experiment. I added photography to the mix, using only a cheap cell phone with a limited camera and the editing software that came with it, and added the blog site Inklings at poormanspoet.wordpress.com to showcase the results. So, feel free to use whatever you find interesting or worthy, but please honor the terms of my copyright when and if you do. They may not be much, but they are still a piece of me. I appreciate your checking me out and hope that you find something that will encourage a return visit. Thanks for stopping by.

This is where it all began. My first post and the inspiration for this blog.
and a damned fine start it was
Much appreciated Paul
WordPress would be a much poorer place without oldmainer. I am very glad you took this first step. I’ll echo Paul’s opinion above – and that gentleman’s opinion on poetry is something worth having!
A very kind comment indeed. Thank you. And I agree. I value his opinion highly.
I hope the rewards are great for you, as I’m very glad, honored to be a reader of your word-work.
That’s very nice of you to say. Thank you
